Feminist Perspectives in Pop Culture Lecture Series

B-Word/Bitch magazine is thrilled to announce our Lecture Series, “Feminist Perspectives in Pop Culture,” a four-evening series made possible by the generous funding of the Oregon Council for the Humanities and sponsored by Portland State Univeristy’s Women’s Resource Center.

Why a Lecture Series? Feminist culture-makers, commentators, historians, scholars, and artists are often missing from discussions of current events to art to activism, and we want to do our part to expand from the written world to the virtual world to the spoken word.

September 30—damali ayo, “Shut up and change: A life as a social change artist.”

November 18—Susie Bright, “The sexual state of the union”

February 24—Jennifer Pozner, “Reality tv programming”

April 28—Guerrilla Girls, “Art and activism.”

All lectures begin at 7pm at Smith Memorial Ballroom at Portland State University.

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. To buy them early (get the series pass for $30!), call (888) 847-8457 or go to the PSU box office at 1825 SW Broadway.

If you can’t be here in Portland there are ways to get involved in supporting the series: buy a pass to give out to someone who couldn’t otherwise be there (email volunteers@b-word.org if you are interested), support our speakers, and consider donating to support the ongoing growth of the series so we can take it to a national level by 2010.

Keep feminist culture-makers, commentators, historians, scholars, and artists’ voices alive and heard!
