Tim Harrington, front man for indie rock band Les Savy Fav is as infamous for his stage antics (and tiny red shorts) as he is for his vocals. Tim has recently taken his showmanship to a new level with the PitchforkTV-produced web-show Beardo. Episode one, “Vampiral Dysfunction” (which probably would have been funnier not premiering on Halloween) guest-starred funny lady Kristen Schaal (Daily Show, Flight of the Conchords) and seemed to hold promise as another amusing, weekly online-timewaster. But then ooh…Tim…things got weird.

The Northwest is already well known as an alternative music capital of the United States. From Sleater-Kinney to Kathy Foster, women's contributions to its rep have not been insignificant. In the next few weeks, Oregon will have no less than three awesome events showcasing women who rock that local ladies should definitely check out!

One of the people hard at work behind the scenes here is Kyla Wagener, AKA Bitch webmonkey.  I'm sharing this for two reasons. First because Kyla recently started her own blog. She's wicked smart. You should read it.

I also share this because in her role as webmonkey, Kyla's wrangling all the content from past issues to be posted here. Our plan is to make available all content from issues that are sold out, and selected content from issues that are still available for purchase (get them while they last!).

I just happened to stumble upon this inspiring musical project spearheaded by singer, Deeyah (often referred to as the 'Muslim Madonna'), today. She describes it as this:

'Sisterhood' is the collective name for a mixtape project of previously unreleased songs written by young up and coming female Muslim rappers, singers and poetesses from the UK, Europe and US.

but on a more positive (well, admirable at least) note....

I'm back in Portland, still processing and reflecting on my trip to the Midwest. I'll be posting more about that soon, but in the meantime, I wanted to share this video about displacement/gentrification in Detroit, featuring Detroit-based female hip-hop artist, Invincible. It's a beautiful example of how powerful a story becomes when different forms of media are combined.

I love that my co-workers think of cows when they think of Wisconsin (thanks, Jess and Briar, for the awesome flyer!).
